Filming In Cerrillos, New Mexico
To film a commercial, documentary or movie in Cerrillos you will need to contact Santa Fe County Film Office and Cerrillos film liaison Todd Brown (brownp52@yahoo.com) or (505) 438-3008.
Please complete the Cerrillos Film Application. A donation to Las Candelas de Los Cerrillos (501c3), the village Community Organization, will be requested. Donations are used to sponsor village events.
Along with the Cerrillos Film Application, you will need a Santa Fe County permit and proof of insurance. Please have a production representative contact the film liaison who will put in you contact with property owners before filming private properties.
Movies Shot in Cerrillos
The buildings along First and Main and the wide dirt streets are popular locations for filming. In the spring of 1988 construction started for the feature film Young Guns I. Within 3 weeks, First Street was transformed into the town Lincoln, New Mexico. Forty five town residents were cast as movie extra's, painters and carpenters. Many were invited to the Santa Fe premier and Mary Mora, of Mary’s Bar, was escorted to the gala in a limousine.
Mary's Bar was the place to hide in John Carpenter's Vampires; and portions of Convoy were shot along Hwy 14, between Madrid and Garden of the Gods. The made for TV movie "Sparks" was filmed in the Simoni Building and at the Casa Grande Trading Post. The trading post was used for an AT&T commercial with tribal members from Santa Domingo even though the home didn't have a telephone hook up at the time. Another commercial filmed at the trading post supplied cases of salsa as a promotion.
Scenes for The Hitcher, Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden and The Edge were done on CR 57, west of town. The pilot for Longmire had scenes filmed in Cerrillos and dust raised from the dirt streets is now infamous. In 2012, the school house property, First Street and San Marcos arroyo were used for the film We're the Millers.
